About Membership

  • Any graduate student (full-time or part-time) enrolled in a program within the Arnold School of Public Health’s Department of Health Services Policy and Management is eligible for HLA membership.

Graduate students in other programs may also be considered for membership based on their interest in healthcare leadership.

Students interested in becoming a member must complete the interest form and pay one-time dues of $100. Students may request accommodations for dues requirements to the President and Treasurer based on personal or financial need.

  • Any student enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program at the University of South Carolina may be considered for associate membership in HLA. Associate membership is intended for undergraduate students looking to explore a career path in healthcare services policy and management. Undergraduate students who are interested in someday pursuing an MHA, MPH, or similar degree are encouraged to consider applying for associate membership; however, associate members are not required to have intentions of receiving a graduate degree.

Students who wish to apply for membership must complete an application which will be reviewed by members of the board and may also be asked to participate in a brief interview. If offered associate membership, students must pay one-time dues of $75 before officially becoming a member. Students may request accommodations for dues requirements to the President and Treasurer based on personal or financial need.

Associate members are invited to participate in all HLA meetings and events unless determined otherwise, which may occur if the programming is of a topic specific to graduate-level students or limited to a particular capacity. Associate members are not permitted to vote in any official business or serve on the board.
